  1. People painting her house = science attempting to recreate nature with broad strokes….

There, plain and simple. It’s not oversimplifying it… this is literally what Arenofsky was going for.

  2. Inspire conjecture…. you mean inspire a dialogue? You know what conjecture means, don’t you?

And dude… the fact that you didn’t pick up on the “so on the nose that it’s painful” allusions to the Bible… is the reason I unsubscribed. This is why the guys at Red Letter Media take the piss out of you….. this movie wasn’t deep. It was contrived, preachy, pseudo-philosophical bullshit….

“Mother Nature is good and humans have killed everything she has given us. This is my book report and I hope you all liked it.”

    Cmon, man….

  3. It didn’t suck because I was shocked…. it didn’t suck because “it was too deep for you, man”. it sucked because it was 1) so on the nose it was painful, and 2) because of that, came across as sanctimonious drivel….

  4. Sorry but I do not like this movie at all. I totally get how people understand the symbolism and how it’s kinda smart in that way. But one word… actual story… the story is awful… the majority of the events that occur in the first half are just thrown away to make way for a new plot line. A movie can be smart in its interpretation but also has to be good in practice.. not just interesting to think about. And why all the celebrity cameos??? Really took me out of it when Kristen Wigg turned up ngl…

  5. It's very much about masculinity vs. femininity. In us, in nature, in God. The masculine that is ego and need to create, destroying and rebuilding. The feminine that is need to nurture, to nourish. Yin and yang. It's reflected in the outside world, the biochemistry of the cosmos, and it's reflected in us. The way men treat women. The way women treat men. It's eternal. It's both sad and the reality of what we are.

  6. Such a well done shit film. Took me down a deep rabbit hole that gave you 0 satisfaction of explanation. Extremely frustrating film to watch. Great imagery and action. Acting was great. Writing was lazy, execution was great.

  7. I've just watched this movie for the first time in my life, and it is, amazing. I am no doubt a Christian so many may think that I would hate this film, well, I don't. The ideology of god, nature, life an death was the main theme of the movie, but even if it makes you offended that shouldn't matter, the antithetical framework of the cinematography, acting, and overall design is what matters the most in a movie, so just because a movie might offend you does NOT mean it should be a 7/10. It's more like a 9/10. The movie in it's design doesn't let you breath, it holds on tight, makes you confused, but still makes you feel something ultimately. Unlike other movies like Nun that also has heavy Christian themes but was ultimately a shite movie because it was objectively bad, and overall it just shakes you violently to make you feel something, but at the end your just filled with nausea and are annoyed.

  8. My anxiety got the best of me during this movie. I had to leave the theater, I couldn’t stay there I felt like I couldn’t breathe in that one scene where all those people break in and start breaking shit.

  9. Apparently Hideo Kojima was the reason Darre made the Film the way he did it, he said it himself to Kojima, that "Kojima, you were the Inspiration" so no wonder at points it really feels like a Kojima Movie, especially that third act "War" scene, that's like straight Outta Metal Gear.

  10. I watched the movie yesterday , I knew that it received a lot of negative press but I deliberately did not read any of it or watch any reviews until I saw it . The movie blew me away, I was holding my breath from the moment Ed harris showed up until the last moment and it shook me to the core, what I really liked about it ( beside all the issues that has been raised by it) is the nightmare quality of filming, this is how nightmares are !!!! In your nightmare you see things that does not make sense or logic and are frightening and yet you feel powerless , hopeless and are unable to change any thing in the nightmare .. there were moments where I felt chest tightness because some scenes felt so intense .. I am not going to talk about the ideas and issues the movie has tackled ( plenty of articles and reviews about it already ) but the least I can say is that the movie is a masterpiece and is so misunderstood and misjudged .

I am happy with your review Chris I trust your opinion and I always run to you channel when I am done with a movie lol ?

  11. seriously, if I had a big name reputation, made 1 or 2 descent and respected films, pretty sure I could sit back, take a dump, put it on film and people would swoon over it….. so what, he mix mashed a bunch of big question themes into a super weird 2hr movie…anyone can do that….nothing that new or creative here. It's just another nuts movie that tries to come across as artistic. JL and HB do a great job playing their parts tho and decor, scene decoration and cinematography was VERY well done…. but overall, just another stupid, artsty cray movie…bleck. Been there, done that. If I want artsy horror I'll watch a Quentin Tarantino movie

  12. Just saw "Mother!" the other day on Amazon Prime Video. Wow. To me, Bardem (Him) represents Trump, all the uninvited guests represent brain-dead foaming at the mouth Trump worshipers, the house they live in represents the U.S. government, Lawrence (Mother) represents common sense, and her new born baby that the Trump worshipers butcher and devour represents the way things should be but never will be. To me, it looks like Aronofsky made a movie about the near term future of America in 2017. Spooky. EGAD ! !

  13. Jennifer Lewrence has very little range as an actor, but she did a decent job here. The close ups of her face were waaaaay overdone.

  14. I just finished watching this movie and I NEED SOME ANSWERS! The second half of it was absolutely INSANE. You are right – it can have SO MANY interpretations to it. A real masterpiece that actually makes us think!

  15. I just finished this movie. I was off the pack as far as you can go. Spoilers. When war breaks out in the house and everything’s changing it was insane I can’t even imagine what I just thought about.

  16. I think it was very much inspired by Rosemary's baby, but I honestly think this movie is brilliant and does it better. So many messages, so much going on…. God this movie is imo a masterpiece.

  17. Also did anyone notice that the same bottle she used to soothe the pain in her chest looks just like the bottle she used to change the color in the plaster in the beginning?

  18. I watched this last night with a cold and doped up on cough drops. I felt very uneasy but I could not stop watching. I want to know what do you think of the yellow powder she kept drinking. Anyone!?!?!?!???

  19. I just watched this movie for the first time yesterday. To be fairly honest, in a way i hated it. This is mostly due to the fact that on amazon prime it was advertised as a psychological thriller. So what I expected was something completely different which of course isnt necessarily a bad thing but with this film i was just disappointed. As an artistic film it was very interesting though.

  20. I think the worst part of this movie was Javier Bardem actually. I just find him and his VOICE totally annoying. I'm not sure what it is but he just rubs me the wrong way. Of all the actors in Hollywood to cast, not sure my Aronofsky chose him.
